I picked up my race packet before checking into the hotel last night. I'm bib number 5. Clearly the race organizers have a high opinion of my abilities. It probably has nothing to do with the fact that they transferred Jake Krong's entry to me.

Checked out the course a little last night. Not fast. It's also pretty windy out but I don't usually notice that in a race. Temperature seems perfect. I had no idea this race had almost a thousand runners.Pretty big expo and all. Half marathons these days!

OK. Good race. Loved the course after I adjusted to the fact that a fast time was not possible. I've never run a cross country half marathon before today. Lots of twisty paths, golf course etc. I only ran three sub six minute miles the whole way. First mile in 5:59, Third mile in 5:57, and 13th mile in 5:52.Most splits were in the 6:15 to 6:20 range with a couple 6:30s. I stopped worrying about them after a while. That fast last mile made the race a pretty good workout but the hills in the middle beat me up a bit as I was dueling it out with Kassie for a while.

Won the Masters division. Thanks to everyone for not showing up. $300.00 cash in an envelope after the race is nice! Thanks again to Jake for the entry.

This is a great race. I will put in on my calendar every year.

PM: 3 mile walk around the neighborhood. Beautiful day. I love walking. If and when my running days come to an end, I will be a good walker.

Great job Rob and 300 smackers for a fun morning - got to be happy with that.

Wow! 300 frog skins for the fastest old coot. Congrats! Time to take the fam to Sizzler.

Nice job. Congrats on the Master's title and $$.

I figured you'd like the course, and walking away w/ a little loot aint too shabby either.

This race gives me hope for running in the state of Utah. In the age of "send 'em down the steepest canyons, stress fractures be d@mned!" Kendall gets over 1000 people out to run a tough course. Its a well directed event and the course is actually a lot of fun once (like you said) you throw time out the window and just RACE. I hope I don't miss it again.

That's exactly what Kendall and I were talking about after the race Jake. I asked him how he got so many Utahans to register for a race that isn't a downhill screamer.

I think it's probably the unique nature of the course. Three or four miles through tulips?!?! That and some excellent organization and a cool place for kids and families.

Nice race Rob! That looks like a fun and very honest course. It's good to a see a race like this draw numbers and it gives the yellow buses a break.

Awesome Rob! Great time representing us geezers. I hope you gave that money immediately to Ann.

great race, rob. congrats on the masters win.

fritz - i like what you said about giving the buses a rest. it adds so much extra time to race morning!

Nice work Rob - sounds like you really enjoyed the event. Good to hear you out there racing and bringing home winnings too. $300 is pretty sweet.

They don't have that in ultra running do they Jon? It's so sweet, innocent, and uncorrupted.

Congrats on the masters win! I'm glad they didn't make you stay in Jake's age category too. Nice race.

Glad you were able to get in and have a good time and a race on an honest course. Getting paid for it at the same time is definitely a good day!

Deseret News marathon in the cards this year?

From Kendall on Sun, Apr 28, 2013 at 00:46:21 from 70.208.2.31

Thanks Rob. Congratulations once again and great meeting you today. I warned you. Perfect day for racing and such a class group of runners like youself. I worried about creating such a course with such a knee-jerk reaction to "hills"--even small ones. Took a gamble on having some fun with it while throwing out a challenging course (and some cash) and most seem to apreciate the diversity.

From Rob on Sun, Apr 28, 2013 at 08:53:25 from 198.228.216.153

Very nice race Rob, if I were a runner I would have totally raced this. It's on my normal running route so I'm not sure why I've never done it. Maybe I'll put it in my calendar for next year too
