AM: Easy 1.5 miles around the neighborhood before driving out to Saltair.

Race: Challenging race today. I don't think I've ever ran a race where I finished more encrusted with ice and snow. The strong headwind the last 5k was a real treat! The first 5k was actually pretty enjoyable but I lost about 90% of my motivation when I hit the turnaround. I was happy to finish second to Walter in the Masters and win $50.

Abby, Andy, and I went to brunch afterwards at Amiee's (Lulu) house after. Lots of other folks who raced today were there as well and she had lots of bacon!

Lookin' good so far this year Rob. Glad you're feeling better, I was sick of your bad mood. Congrats on the $50.

From Bam on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 14:11:39 from 89.126.28.24

Well done for getting out there Rob and congrats on the $50 and 2nd place. Headwinds are a nightmare and should be banned in races:)

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 14:19:13 from 24.10.249.165

If there had to be a headwind it should be at the beginning of the race when you're feeling fresh and chipper and you have the added motivation of knowing you will have a tailwind at the end,

Rob - it's good to be out there mixing it up even though I'm going to have to accept having my A** handed to me for a while.

From Bret on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 14:24:14 from 96.228.167.228

Nicely done Rob. No mention of aches pains or injuries too in your report -- gotta believe it is just a matter of time for your training to catch you back up to where you were before.

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 14:29:37 from 24.10.249.165

Bret - just the normal "old man with over thirty years of training and racing" type of aches and pains. No injury pain. I'm hoping that when I can get my mileage consistently up to 70 with some quality workouts that I'll be able to run some times close to what I was doing a couple years ago.

Nicely done! Good to see you feeling so well and mixing it up with Walter.

so much bacon. so many leg hair icicles.

From jerekson on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 16:08:46 from 65.130.201.198

Good race Rob. I witnessed the icicles.

That's really good Rob... less than 30 seconds off from last year (which was perfect weather and your training was better at that point). You've been making consistent, solid progress lately.

From Andrea on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 17:15:19 from 67.166.101.214

Nice running today! Fun to hang out with you and the kids :)

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 17:19:53 from 24.10.249.165

Thanks Jake, but it was more like 2:30 off of last year for me. I ran mid-35 last year.

From Jake K on Sat, Feb 09, 2013 at 17:22:13 from 67.177.11.154

Oh sorry I totally looked at the wrong time!

Just forget what I said.

I was just trying to build up your confidence! :-)

From Steve on Sun, Feb 10, 2013 at 14:09:53 from 66.87.66.125

Pretty awesome I think. Two great races after some serious frustrating time off. I think you are ahead of the game right now. Cold, windy races suck!

From scottkeate on Sun, Feb 10, 2013 at 15:07:15 from 71.199.4.146

NIce race, Rob! Best wishes to you as you ramp up your training. I'd love to see you cranking out some fast times this year.

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Feb 10, 2013 at 15:21:18 from 24.10.249.165

Steve, Scott - I really appreciate that guys. It helps having encouragement from runners like you.

From Jon on Sun, Feb 10, 2013 at 15:58:10 from 107.203.52.135

Good job. Just be glad it was a headwind for 5k, and not a point to point marathon, right?

From Matt Poulsen on Sun, Feb 10, 2013 at 16:47:29 from 98.202.242.213

Great to finally meet you yesterday, Rob! Nice work in brutal conditions. Sounds like your fitness is on the up-swing. You've got running in your blood.

I'll echo everyone's comments...it seems you're starting to get it back and you had a nice effort on Saturday. Good work and congrats on the cash.
