No running today.

Felt like I needed a day off. Getting ready to take the kids to Jump Around Utah with the church group.

I registered for the North Face 50 mile championship race in San Francisco in January. I'm not sure what I was thinking but I did the "elite entry" thing. I'm not even sure what that means. One thing I learned is that it does NOT mean "free entry".

Anyway, me, Jon Allen, and about 15 intimidating sounding folks from around the world currently comprise the "elite" field. I guess I should train.

I really don't know what the Elite entry means, either. Definitely not free. A masters runner with a 2:43 marathon seems to fit the bill to me.

be careful in that race. i read on letsrun that these trail races like to lead the fast "road" guys off-course when they have huge leads :-)

I figure I'll just run with Jon the whole way.

You are becoming an ultra guy!

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Mar 18, 2012 at 18:24:49 from 76.27.122.13

Just trying to shake things up a bit Jeff.

I'm looking at the Pocatello Marathon too.

From Steve on Sun, Mar 18, 2012 at 23:49:00 from 66.87.67.253

Wow, cool idea. Could be a fun race.

I got 20 bucks on Steve signing up for TNF 50 - it seems right up his alley!

From Jon on Mon, Mar 19, 2012 at 20:39:03 from 98.71.138.90

Do it, Steve. And Jake. It'll put some humility into you guys! :)

From Rob Murphy on Mon, Mar 19, 2012 at 20:42:51 from 76.27.122.13

There's something to be said for ignorance Jon. Some of the best runners I've ever coached have been those too stupid to know why they couldn't accomplish.

That's me!

From Steve on Mon, Mar 19, 2012 at 23:09:30 from 66.87.64.122

I already got humiliated at the Technica Challenge last year. Trail runners are animals.

From Steve on Mon, Mar 19, 2012 at 23:10:03 from 66.87.64.122

Rob could use some humility though...

From Jake K on Tue, Mar 20, 2012 at 08:44:02 from 155.100.226.54

Well maybe we could use some humility... but the trail guys could use some oxygen debt... that's where I can be useful!

Would I get DQ'd if I started faster than jogging and didn't carry a bunch of snacks with me? :-)

From Rob Murphy on Tue, Mar 20, 2012 at 08:51:43 from 205.127.70.66

Perhaps we should carry this discussion over to letsrun.com where we can open another bash ultra runners thread?

From Jake K on Tue, Mar 20, 2012 at 08:53:23 from 155.100.226.54

I can't help but make comments like that - I usually fire them off at Andrea and get her mad at me for being a jerk, but since she is gone, I need an outlet to channel all the nonsense I read on letsrun during the day!

From Jon on Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 21:00:05 from 98.71.138.90

The lead pack at the 50 mile race last year started off at sub-6 pace for quite a few miles. Over hilly terrain.

From Jon on Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 21:04:39 from 98.71.138.90

By the way, I sure hope you're running a 50k or even 50m this summer.

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 21:08:49 from 76.27.122.13

I've been looking around Jon. Any suggestions?

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 21:10:42 from 76.27.122.13

I was also thinking about doing R2R2R in the Fall over two days and staying at the South rim lodge after day one.
