Had a fair amount of success as a Masters runner for most of my 40s. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Have fun with running, explore more trails, stay healthy.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running and racing consistently for as long as I can. Find what is sustainable for me over the long run.

I teach AP European History and other courses at Alta High School. I coached the track and cross country teams at Alta for 16 years.

I did a track workout this afternoon...

2.25 mile warm-up and then 10 x 200 meters in 40, 39, 39, 37, 38, 36, 36, 34, 34, and 30.60 seconds on the last one. I was trying so hard to break 30 on the last one and was not happy. Next time I'll wear spikes or at least racing flats instead of clunky training shoes.

That 30.60 is an age-graded 26.19 though :-)

Nice! I don't think I've run a sub-30 200 despite plenty of chances. And it doesn't get any easier.

I used to have decent speed for a distance runner in high school and college and I suspect I have a high percentage of fast twitch fibers. Maybe that's why marathons are so hard for me?

I ran some hard 200s after a workout last summer in spikes and was just above 30. That's impressive in trainers especially. I guess I need to try to break 30, maybe I should just keep working on my push-ups :-)

Definitely 30 sec 200m is really good especially for us masters. I think with enough mileage and tempo runs you could run a really good time in the marathon. Just look at Gebreselassie..
