This was the hardest race I've ever run and I have the bruises and cuts to prove it.

Discrete Trail Series Alta race. Not really running except for a mile or two, Mostly hiking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, bouldering, falling down, and whining inside my head.

Feast your eyes on these splits...

Mile 1 - 19:06

Mile 2 - 21:07

Mile 3 - 19:44

Mile 4 - 15:25

Mile 5 - 5:53

Mile 6 - 6:43

I think they pretty much tell the story. I won't be running this one again.

This is my kind of run

The elevation shows a better picture... There was 1100 ft loss in the half mile coming down from Baldy OMG! Nice job not quitting and not falling all the way down the mountain. That was stupid!

Wowzers!!! I can only imagine!!!

I am not sure whether to respect you or be afraid of you, Rob. But no tree climbing?

I think it was Brigham Young who once said:

"And it shall pass that a trail deemed runnable will be too lame for downhill skiing. Yet let it be known that the vice de la versa is also true, for a route providing enough steepness to tear through champagne G on a pow day is best enjoyed with shred sticks on thy feet and a helmet on thy head."

Or maybe that was Glen Plake? I get those two confused.

In any case, I like that route and we do variations of it... in the spring... on snow :-)

I bet you'll get all your miles under 15 minutes in your next race. You're due!

Nice Jake!

I did enjoy that 5:53. I passed a ton of people who are better than me at rolling down boulder fields.

I would have lent you a helmet if I knew the course went down the NW shoulder of Mt Baldy. That's sort of a ridiculous route, it's a pure scree field. Going up is one thing, because most people would be walking anyways, but going down seems a bit reckless - that's a legitimate advanced level ski run for 6 months of the year that Alta closes off a lot of times due to avalanche danger!

So this goes in the "what was I thinking" list of races? Glad you got through it relatively unscathed! :)

From Jon on Mon, Aug 10, 2015 at 18:20:34 from 107.203.52.135

I'm with Steve- my kind of race.

I wonder how often Brigham Young and Glen Plake get confused with each other. Probably more than you think.

"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger" Right?

From allie on Tue, Aug 11, 2015 at 16:44:26 from 24.99.46.55

i'm now realizing that 74% was downhill. brutal!

Yeah Allie, that was something I didn't fully appreciate going in.
