AM: Easy 8.25 around Lusk Wyoming.Stayed at one of my favorite motels, The Best Western Pioneer Inn with this excellent chuck wagon omelette bar out by the pool area with your omelettes made by the motel owner in boots and cowboy hat and everybody getting their picture taken with him. Mimosa's too which would, no doubt, be illegal in Utah.

37 degrees on my run!

Off to Mt. Rushmore when the kids get out of the pool - they were in the thing at 7:30.

I have arrived....in Murdo, South Dakota! CAN'T BELIEVE I've lived almost 50 years and missed Murdo so far. Heading out to explore the town on foot now.

PM: 4.5 miles around Murdo. Wow! I think I might be the first person to ever run here. The split racing shorts might have been a mistake.

37 degrees! Nice. Sounds like a fun trip. Enjoy it!

We still talk about our Rushmore trip from about ten years ago - kids really enjoyed it - hopefully the hiking trails will be open... lots of chipmunk/ground squirrels and such. Oh, and the big sculpture thingy too.

Apparently there's a new trail that goes up and around the sculpture. Andy want's to skip it and go to this tourist trap gold mine thing so we can get rich.

Googling "Murdo South Dakota" is kind of depressing!

According to City-Data, Robert is the 3rd most common name in Murdo.

1. Robert Murdo. I'll add that to my list of aliases.

2. The Mimosa is an underrated beverage.

3. Even at twenty-nine and knowing better I watched that show about mining claims out west at my parents' house and for a few minutes was convinced that with my dad's knowledge of geology and rocks and minerals we could make a go of it.

You're right Jake. Prosperity bypasses this place. We're staying at the really cool Landmark Country Inn though which is a bright spot. Heading to the Buffalo Grill now…

Rob's travelogue signing off.

Too funny about the shorts...loving the travelogue!

From Jake K on Mon, Jun 09, 2014 at 19:03:56 from 98.202.128.218

Jason, don't give up on that dream. In fact, I could sell you some stock in something locals call the "dream mine." Just Fed-ex some cash to me and I'll get you some shares. It will pay huge dividends, trust me. No chance of this failing.

Keep up the travelogging, Rob. Can't wait to see where the adventure takes you tomorrow!

From Jason D on Mon, Jun 09, 2014 at 19:20:33 from 24.1.80.94

I was hoping Rob would finance it, and I would cut young Andy in on it. But if it is as easy as you say I might do that. The shipping sites say I am not supposed to send cash so would my credit card number work?

Enjoying the travelogiblogging as well, Rob. Fun last year too. Safe travels.

Thanks Jason. Glad you're enjoying the annual Murphy excursion through the heartland.

We'll be in the Twin Cities tomorrow Jake. I'll get a run in around Lake Calhoun, Lake of the Isles, and Lake Harriet ( the "chain of lakes" in the local lingo). I'll also be out of the food desert and able to eat more healthy.

Split racing shorts are never a mistake. Never.
