I ran about 30 seconds slower than last year bur ran WAY more relaxed and conservatively. Didn't wipe out at all on the downhills. Finished second to Taha in the 50-54.

I had fun today and still felt fresh at the finish.

Splits - 10:40, 10:04, 9:41, 9:30, 11:14, 10:50, 17:26, 11:08, 7:24, 7:14, 6:44, 6:44, 6:58, 6:51, 6:07

The 17:26 split included a mountain called Jupiter Peak. It's rocky, steep, and not really possible to run. You just mostly crawl on all fours. A couple times I almost fell back down the mountain.

I enjoyed driving up with Tayte Pollmann who ended up winning the whole thing in 1:50. Tayte is 18 and just graduated from Brighton High School and I've got to know him this year because he trains with my Alta team sometimes. He's going to The University of Portland in the fall. I think it's pretty unique for a high school kid to win a race like this.

Congratulations on a good race.

Are those splits, mile splits? If so, I can tell by the times how difficult the uphill portion of the race is.

What kind of racing do you have next on your schedule?

From Rob Murphy on Sat, Aug 01, 2015 at 13:24:02 from 24.10.247.181

Mark - yes, they are mile splits. No need to post an elevation profile after reading them right?

I'm not really sure. Maybe the TOU Half and if things go well maybe a fall marathon if I can work it around cross country meets.

Well done Rob! I'd like to try that race one of these years.

I think you should do TOU Half!

Great job, Rob. Always a fun race. Congrats on the 2nd in age group.

Yes, a teenager winning a trail race is pretty rare, though increasing in frequency the past few years.

Jon - Tayte finished 4th at the Wasatch Steeplechase despite a wrong turn. Fritz told me he would have won.

Nice job Rob. That was a quick last mile even with those switchbacks.

Tayte could be amazing at this trail stuff if he sticks to it. Short/light guy with big quads is a good recipe, just like Carpenter and Killian.

Nicely done, Rob. That sounds like a strong time from the winner. I know Blake ran about 2 hours last year but I didn't know there was rock climbing involved.

Utah half sounds good. I was going to ask if there was a half coming up. I noticed you didn't do the Gary Bjorkland (?) half from previous years. If you find yourself in Philadelphia on Halloween, I'm hoping to run a respectable one at Rock and Roll.

Strong race, congrats!

If I could say BadA#@ on here I would!! Crazy impressive!!!

That's some serious stuff! Congrats! :-)

Great report Rob - crawling on all fours - sounds like a serious challenge! Glad you enjoyed it too.

Hey I think downhill monster passed you on the way down without realizing it :)

Hi Rob

From Rob Murphy on Mon, Aug 03, 2015 at 15:47:56 from 24.10.247.181

That's right. After you passed me I was hoping you would roll an ankle or something :)

From Dave Taylor on Mon, Aug 03, 2015 at 15:59:12 from 50.186.108.171

Yep, I just checked the splits. You killed me in the uphill but I picked up almost 2 minutes on the Peak ascent and gained on all the downhill miles. I wish I could climb like you :) I was the guy walking at the start of the single track.

From Jake K on Tue, Aug 04, 2015 at 10:15:13 from 199.190.170.28

Good run Rob. Always nice to get through a race like this without a wipeout.

You are in a bit of a groove this summer. If you pick a few races carefully for Fall you will have a breakthrough run.
