Twelve miles in 1:27 along the River's Edge Trail on the Missouri River in Great Falls, Mt.

Stopped a couple times to read historic markers along the trail. Ran from the Holiday Inn up to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and back. The museum is really incredible as are all National Park Service sites. Made me thankful that I live in a country that sees fit to spend public money preserving its history and its best places. This, by the way, was the idea of Progressive Era politicians like Theodore Roosevelt. I wonder if Glenn Beck knows about that? Or does he think we would be better off with upscale condos ringing the perimeter of Old Faithful?

I just mention than because Beck is constantly railing against Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and other Progressive politicians.Yes! By all means lets get rid of the National Park system, the National Forest Service, repeal the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote. Also, Progressive Era relics and threats to freedom like the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act should probably go as well.

But it was a really great run today.

Nice run! We were just up around that area and stopped to see some L&C historical markers as well (in Lolo Pass). I hear you on the amazing things that our forefathers accomplished and the way they set things up for generations that follow. I only hope that our children's children can look back at our decisions in the same way (as a government worker I try to keep this in mind with all the stupidity I see at times).

Nice run, Rob!

No mention of achilles pain. I'm hoping that is because it wasn't there -- especially considering how many miles you ran. :)

So, although I am presently in the process of applying to PT programs, my major is actually history (I know, pathetic that I am so old and just finishing my degree). Anyway, my favorite classes were my African American history courses. However, not too far behind was a course I took entitled, "The Progressive Era." Good stuff!

It's a relief to know that at least some of our high school kids will have a broader outlook and better understanding of our country's history. I bet you are an incredible teacher as well as a coach.

Very nice, on all accounts.

No need to convince me, I take the SL Trib and am registered as a Dem.

You guys are so funny - and encouraging.

Jeff - I was following your blog a couple weeks ago on your Yellowstone Trip. It's the main reason why we decided to head up to Montana this week. Thanks.

Teena Marie - I always like your comments and good luck with your school. The achilles is still hurting a little. Kicked in at about 8 miles today. But it never gets any worse. Thanks for the compliment. I always try to take a trip to somewhere "historical" right before the school year starts. It usually gets me enthused again.

Paul - I was strictly a Republican before I moved to Utah and thought of myself as pretty conservative. But all that changed when I moved to Utah. I can honestly say that I love almost everything about this state except its politics.

You rebel you! In all things, moderation. Beck and Limbaugh are good 5 minutes per week - everything else you need is at reuters.com, and maybe maclayrunners.com ;-)

I am glad that our vacation inspired you to take a look up north! Enjoy Montana!
