I had some success in high school and college. Winner 1985 Rod Dixon Run 

Had a fair amount of success as a Masters runner for most of my 40s. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Have fun with running, explore more trails, stay healthy.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running and racing consistently for as long as I can. Find what is sustainable for me over the long run.

Personal:

I teach AP European History and other courses at Alta High School. I coached the track and cross country teams at Alta for 16 years.

I hate 30 mph wind and I'm tired of it so I went to the gym and did a long treadmill run. Averaged 7:20 to 7:30 pace.

Today is Andy's adoption day which we will celebrate for the 11th straight year at Bucca Di Beppo in downtown Salt Lake which is where we went in 2006 after we finalized his adoption. Anyone who wants to join us at 6 pm is welcome.

Couple new books I'm excited to read. Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life just won the Pulitzer for biography last week. Also Sebastian Junger has a new book coming out that's on my summer reading list.

Maybe the most miserable race I've ever run??? Cold, torrential rain, strong headwind. Suffering from hypothermia at the end. Pleased with time considering the conditions. I feel really bad for people on this blog who ran or are running the full.

My right knee and right hamstring were not cooperating after mile 5 and that kept me from pushing harder when my other body parts wanted to. I'll have to figure that out in future races this year. On a positive note, my hip felt great.

Splits - 6:28, 6:15, 6:08, 6:20, 5:55, 6:18, 6:24, 6:19, 6:06, 6:21, 6:25, 6:25, 6:39, .34

One more note. In the 2 years since I've run a serious road race people have started wearing these fat shoes that look like pancakes. I don't know how good they are but they look really slow and dorky.

I'm sore. Walked 4 miles and read a lot. Lazy Sunday..

PM: Hiked 3 miles on the Pipeline Trail with my kiddos after Ann left for work. Andy whacked stuff with a stick the entire way. Beautiful sunset - the clouds finally cleared in the late afternoon. It's always a good idea to get your kids outside. It's nice to see how light they become.

11 mile trail run in Mill Creek Canyon or Millcreek Canyon depending on who you talk to. I got up there at 6:30 which avoided the insanity that existed on the way back down. On a side note, if you are a road cyclist and you choose to ride in that canyon on Memorial Day, you are either stupid or suicidal.

Beautiful run. Lots of climbing.
