21 miles this morning in City Creek Canyon - 5 miles uphill, 5 miles downhill, 5 miles uphill, 5 miles downhill, 1 mile flat.

Time was 2:35:07 (7:23 pace). Feel good now, not beat up or sore.

Went down to Draper after my run to watch my former runner Garrett Jones do his mission farewell thing. He's off to Denmark/Iceland/Greenland.I go to LDS Church at least once a year when my boys invite me when they talk in church prior to leaving on their mission. I had this observation that us non-Mormons are probably more impressed with the whole two year mission thing at age 19 than Mormons are. I try to imagine me doing something like that when I was 19 and I laugh. But today I heard a bunch of very small boys singing songs about going on a mission for their church someday and it occured to me that the LDS Church starts getting these guys mentally ready for this at a very young age.

Really appreciated the food after at Garrett's house as I was pretty famished after the run this morning.

NICE long run! So, you ate hills for breakfast, eh! GREAT RUN! TERRIFIC pace! NICELY done, Rob!!! :)

Glad the Jones fed you well after church! That is another *tradition*... no friends and family ever go away hungry after attending a missionary farewell or homecoming! :)

Very good observation! Sometimes some of the mothers of these 19 year olds get astonished too! They secretly wish that the Church would send them on missions when they're 16!!! :) :) :) But seriously, as a mother of 4 return missionaries and one more son soon to leave, there is nothing quite like watching these young people grow spiritually, gain a testimony and conviction of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and have the desire to serve Him full time for 18 months to 2 years. Ultimately it is the personal conversion and preparation of the individual young man/woman that make a missionary. Parents and the Church members can only provide spiritual environment and guidance! :)

Nice run, I love city creek. I've never run it back and fourth like this, sounds like a great workout. When I do it, I start at the Capitol and it turns out to be a 13.1 miler. Did you start your run from the guard shack?

I start below Memory Grove. Today I had to turn around at 5 miles because of snow! So when I got back down I was at 10 miles. Slurped some Gadorade and a GU and decided to do it again.

Rob, did the Leprechaun Lope 10K there yesterday the wind was brutal. You must have seen the turn around point on your run. I have been running up there recently, is the snow level still about a half mile past the building? Nice long run.

Bill - Good to hear from you! Yes, I did see the 10k paint on the road just above Memory grove. There was this big wall of snow in the road at exactly a half mile past the water plant.

Everything ready for the Leopard Run Saturday? Any discounts available for Alta runners/coaches?

Smooth - those are good observations. I remember Garrett as a 9th grader, like yesterday! We will go for a run together on Wednesday and then I won't see him for two years. I get pretty close to a lot of the guys I coach and teach. My state championship team from 2008 is all over the world now.

Rob, We have a discounted rate for High school kids, and a coach could do it too. It is the family deal for the first four and $18 for an additional after that. If you had a bunch coming I could see what else we could do. We had a lot more expenses this year.
