So I'm at work now administering the ACT and I'm wondering how Texas Instruments achieved their near monopoly on calculators. Of 25 kids taking the test right now, I have 22 using TI's and 3 using Casios.

That's pretty good market share.

PM: Well, some days everything comes together perfectly to prevent me from getting in a decent run. Had to be at work today earlier than the normal 7 am so no morning run. ACT testing so no lunch run. Wife had to work so no after school run, daughter had to go to math tutor so I couldn't get to the gym before the rush so I could get a treadmill. Got to the gym and waited 20 minutes for a treadmill to open up. One finally did and the belt slipped horribly over 7 mph. Waited 15 minutes for another treadmill and it was permanently stuck in -3% downhill mode and sounded like a herd of elephants when I ran on it. Waited about 5 minutes for another treadmill next to the worst smelling individual I've ever encountered. Attitude shot to he!! by this point. Ran 2.25 miles, quit and picked up the kids.

Sitting at home pouting now.

I still have a TI-85 from when I was in school, and if I remember right the teacher required that model so everyone would have the same one.

So, I blame the teachers getting kickbacks from TI.

I'm pretty sure I had my TI with me at all times throughout college (did I mention how super cool I was in college?!). I still have 2 TI-89s and one TI-85...engineer's dream.

Andrea is such a dork. As soon as I graduated from college I traded my TI-83 for a case of diet mtn dew.

I had my ti-85 with me every minute in high school but it passed away a few years ago. I couldn't fathom being without a TI so I bought a TI-89 just for fun. I still can't comprehend how it does indefinite integrals.

I actually wasn't aware people still used calculators.

I have an iPhone!

As a right-brained history guy, I never took a math course difficult enough to require a calculator.

Imagine my surprise to find all the comments to my idle musing.

Runners + Bloggers = Dorks = People who will talk about calculators

It really shouldn't come as a huge surprise

The negative 3 percent treadmill wasn't broken, its the official treadmill of the St George Marathon

That's the best "no run" story. Ever.
