am: 8.25 miles in 61 minutes with my cross country team. After practice we had the 6th Annual Alta Cross Country Team Breakfast at my house. My wife and my mom cooked breakfast for 40 high schoolers. This is quite a feat in our wee little Sugarhouse house.

pm: 5.25 miles in 34:52 on the treadmill. I felt no pain in the achilles at all on the treadmill. But it did hurt the last couple miles on the morning run.

Love the team breakfast thing...great for bonding and team building. Some of my best memories of hs cross country were the social parts - Surely this cannot rival the Bran Flakes breakfast run in Largo with Craig Virgin back in the day!

Very cool. Kids are lucky to have you as a coach.

Travis' XC squad did a midnight run and sleep over last Fri at his captain's house - was full moon and he said they tied glow sticks to their shoes and one of the guys had ipod and speakers in a backpack blaring through the woods - gotta love it.

Do you have 40 just on the boys' side? Looking like there will only be 8 or 9 on our varsity boys team and the girls will be lucky to field 7. Good athletes at small private schools get stretched very thin. Two of our best prospects from the middle school squad last year opted for football of all things - oh well.

Doug - In the fall I'll have from 70 to 90 kids on the two teams. We are at the peak of family vacation season, scout camps, church camps etc. so 40 right now is a pretty low number. But the school has about 2600 kids in grades 10-12.I should be able to get a lot more out if I weren't such a hard ass.
