am: 7 miles in 55 minutes around Sugarhouse Park. Included a handful of hard 20 to 30 second efforts. I will try to get in another workout before the cross country meet this evening.

pm: Met up with Steve Ashbaker in the gully for the Alta Cross Country teams "gully long run". Actually only 6.5 miles, but a tough, hilly run.

At our pre region meet my girls nipped the American Fork girls 32-36 to finish first in our seven team region.. Looks like it's going to be a dogfight between our two teams all year.

Are you still doing the half-marathon race this weekend Rob?

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Sep 01, 2010 at 10:31:36 from 205.127.70.66

Yes, the Pocatello Half this Saturday. Heading up on Friday.

Jeff Shadley ran a marathon last Saturday in 2:48. "Takin' it easy" he told me. Now if he beats me this Saturday I'll feel even more pathetic.

Good luck at the meet.

Dang, you throw down a challenge...I thought we would be running buddies now we are competitors! ;-)

Looking forward to running with you! See you on Friday/Saturday!

Jeff, I'm not going to start talking trash on the blog or making jokes about your mama.

Really though, I generally consider myself capable of running in the 1:17 to 1:18 range on a flat course. But I'm not sure about Saturday. Injury and inconsistency have been a problem. But I'm feeling pretty good now and have managed some pretty decent workouts lately.

We will see.

What about my momma? Just busting your chops, no worries my friend!

Let's work together and get your goals or better! I ran this a couple of years ago in 1:15:30ish so it can be a fast course.

Good luck, Rob! I'll look forward to the race report. You're a speedy guy. I'm sure you can take Jeff. Don't tell him I said that, though. :-)

Thanks for the run and the company yesterday Rob. By the way, I met up with a guy this morning who is 50 and has run 2:21 back east. We talked for a bit, nice guy but I got the feeling he was enjoying his early morning solitude so I went the other way after awhile. But I hope I meet up again with him as I would really like to get a club formed here in Sandy like we talked about.

No discredit at all to Jeff, but I do think you can pull this one off. If Jeff had not run a marathon recently I think you would have more of a struggle. A real battle to the finish. Good luck buddy..

Thanks Steve. Honestly, I'm just looking forward to some good competition with some different guys than here in Utah. If anyone can pull off a speedy half the week after a marathon it would be Jeff. I know I couldn't do it, but with the miles Jeff runs I think he can.
