Nine miles on the treadmill. Some of it as fast as 9 mph!

Here's another question. Why is the United States so horrible at the triathlon? This is a sport we invented and we don't have to compete with Kenyans and Ethiopians. Yet in the four Olympic games in which it has been contested, the U.S. has one paltry bronze medal.

Because we realized it was even easier to win medals in the 6 different snowboarding events and focused our efforts there

Very few Tri Pros will ever compete in the Olympics.

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 06:51:20 from 24.10.249.165

So we aren't sending our best guys? Why is that when professionals in every other sport go to the Olympics?

From Rob on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 07:09:05 from 206.71.84.68

The Basketball players don't have anything better to do this time of year.

That's a good question, Rob. I was thinking the same thing. With the plethora of world class swimmers in the US who can't make it and the bikers and runners, I'd have thought many would have flocked to the tri.

You never know, if Lancelot decides to take up the Olympic distance, the US might just dominate the tri.

Isn't Lance banned from triathlons?

From Chad Robinson on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 08:46:31 from 50.73.39.89

Yes, over some little doping thing.

From Rob on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 08:59:29 from 206.71.84.68

Just give all the athletes dope and prosthetics and make it a level playing field.

From Bam on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 09:00:17 from 89.204.239.58

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Worse still, it was only a couple of weeks back that I read all the doping bumf - that's what happens when you get older.

From Chad Robinson on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 09:06:02 from 50.73.39.89

After all "we all want prosthetic foreheads on our real heads".

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 12:24:43 from 24.10.249.165

Can anyone give me the name of a great U.S. triathlete who won't go to the Olympics?

But I don't think it's just the Olympics. When was the las time an American won the Ironman? We dominated in the 80s and 90s and then everything came to a screeching halt.

From Jake K on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 12:25:56 from 155.100.226.54

I googled your question and the first hit was:

"Who would win in a fight between Iron Man and Captain America"

Definitely Iron Man!

From Jake K on Wed, Aug 08, 2012 at 12:27:35 from 155.100.226.54

Looks like just one podium finish in the last decade for USA

That's easy. We're wussies and drive too much.
