AM: Early seven miles around Foothill.

Afternoon cross country meet today. My boys will be racing in the crisp fall (96 degree) air at 3:30 at Cottonwood Complex. Ideal for fast times.

There is a great thread going on now on Letsrun called "Nearing 50 and my legs are trashed". Of course this won't apply to those of you who are able to pound out 100 mile weeks with no problem but for me there are some very good insights.

Pretty decent result this afternoon in our meet. My boys won with 47 points defeating Jordan, Brighton, Copper Hills, West Jordan, and Cottonwood high schools. Hardly dominating, but I'll take it. Our #1 runner, Kramer Morton, took first overall in 16:41. Not bad for a 3:30 PM race at the end of a school day in 95 degree heat. We placed three runners well up in the top ten, but a big gap to 4 and 5 that will kill us in bigger meets with better competition.

Good heat training for when they grow up and decide to run the Boston Marathon

Jake, you haven't let up with the Boston heat jokes. That marathon was no joke.

From Andrea on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 09:16:56 from 155.100.226.191

I figure we get about 6 months to joke about it, then wipe it from the memory completely

And that was me w/ that last comment, not Andrea...

I need to learn how to embed videos without having Jake sign in as me and do it for me!

How come your girls aren't running? I have a doc's appt at 3pm, but if I get out in time, I'll stop by and cheer you guys on.

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 09:29:36 from 163.248.33.220

I retired from coaching the girls team.

Good Luck, Rob! I feel your/their pain. Pretty much all of our XC meets are early morning Saturdays to keep the temps below 90... ish.

From Andrea on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 09:41:47 from 72.37.171.52

How come? Who's coaching them now?

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 10:38:10 from 163.248.33.220

Andrea - I felt like I was spread too thin with coaching both teams. We had a lot of success but I wasn't enjoying it. I'm a much happier person coaching just the boys.

Heather Hefener and Doug Robinson, two of our track coaches, are coaching the girls.

That's probably a good thread worth reading, but I've already been sidetracked by the "If everyone in the world ran a 1-mile TT" and "Michael Johnson Falls Out of a boat" threads.

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 11:24:26 from 163.248.33.220

I know what you mean Jake. You should read it though - actually shows that there are some bright, well meaning people on letsrun.

From Jake K on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 11:31:13 from 155.100.226.191

I just tried to go read it again, but got sidetracked by the hundred responses to "What's the purpose of having seatbelts on airplanes?" and "At what age do men and women reach their peak in attractiveness?"

Its a good thread - I like the guy who suggested buying an Alter-G treadmill. I guess they are about the price of a new car... and would definitely increase quality of life a lot more than a car would!

From Jake K on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 11:31:53 from 155.100.226.191

Oh and the introduction to the 1 mile time trial thread is worth reading. Obviously the college kids are back in class and therefore on the message boards.

From Bret on Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 13:09:35 from 64.128.133.66

It is a good thread for the old guys. Thanks for posting.
