I had some success in high school and college. Winner 1985 Rod Dixon Run 

Had a fair amount of success as a Masters runner for most of my 40s. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Have fun with running, explore more trails, stay healthy.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running and racing consistently for as long as I can. Find what is sustainable for me over the long run.

I teach AP European History and other courses at Alta High School. I coached the track and cross country teams at Alta for 16 years.

A great new Dos Equis "most interesting man in the world" commercial I saw today...

"His small talk has been known to alter foreign policy"

Good gully run with my boys - 7.25 miles in 55:30. 

I'm kind of agonizing over whether to run Des News or not. Of course the marathon is out of the question since I only average about 40 miles/week these days and I weigh 155 pounds. If I run the 10k I could probably win$250 since most of the fast guys are running the marathon.

 Then there's the streak. I ran my first Des News in 2002, three weeks after I moved to Utah and haven't missed one since. I've also won the masters division in either the marathon or the 10k six out of the last seven years - partly because I run whatever race Steve Anderson isn't running, but still...

OK, I did it signed up for the 10K. I'm really not sure if my legs are ready for those downhills but I'm going to gulp some vitamin I and go for it.

Lulu - the argument for not running (you're right, I did forget that) is that I don't feel like running, my foot would hurt, and I would run a slower time than in past years which would convince me that I'm too old to run fast anymore.

Rob, we should just make a pact and do it! I feel the same way as you. I'm afraid my time will be slower than my unaided 10ks this year. Any advice on pacing the course? You are a veteran dn runner!

The 10k is screaming downhill. The last mile can be hard if your quads are really pounded. I doubt you would run slower than your un-aided 10ks!

I usually advise people to not hold back. Just let it rip on those downhills. You've got to have fun with it and it's not like it's a marathon and you have to pay for your sins for many miles, just one mile. My 5k split is usually my 5k PR for any given year.

Rob - you just never know with Steve.

Brandon - I see what you're saying but my fit racing weight is about 145. Ten pounds is a lot when you're racing. That's what nine days of vacation eating and reduced running will do.

Do it! Besides, it's not like you are going out to pace somebody to go sub 3 hours for the marathon...and then snagging the Master's win.

Both the 10K and marathon seem like better options than a 30 mile treadmill run at 3am, so you really can't choose wrong.

Melody - you can't hold back on Wakara. This is a 10K where banking some time early is acually probably the right strategy :-)
