PM: Training thoughts lately... I was looking over my blog from years past and realized that almost all of my "workouts" from years past when I was running my best times (since joining this blog) were run on the treadmill. This is not because I think treadmill workouts are better than workouts on the road or track, but simply becasue that's where I'm more likely to do them. More simply, doing treadmill workouts is much better than no workouts at all.

So today I did a 1.5 mile warm-up, 8.25 miles in 60 minutes, and a short cool down.

Felt good after some work related crappyness today. A colleague who is quite sick and the fact that we history teachers are starting to receive long letters from moms (not most moms, but a few highly committed activists) of students addressing topics that we are not allowed to teach or discuss in class.

What a world we live in! How did we get here?

Hmmm... I think it started with the Scopes Trial.

Haha. Thanks for the response.

Maybe these "mom's" should look in the mirror on the indoctrination issues in their own lives and revisionist history.

People are so dug in with regards to their opinions Jeff. We only consume media that constantly reinforces our own views and portrays others as evil. So people who disagree with us are not just mistaken on an issue but "bad people".

Well put about the treadmill. Those steady moderate runs go a long way and it's so nice to fine tune short tempo runs. Lots of successful training has been done on treadmills (as I know you know), but two examples come to mind: Wesley Hunt's many epic treadmill training sessions, but particularly his training going into Leadville (I forget the year). Justin Park is a great example of a committed treadmill runner. I long for the time when I get ours straighten out so I can do recovery runs on it and minutes-based progression runs.

Perhaps more so than before, people are really committed to the way things are or the way things were. There's no questioning, no uncertainty, no admitting of wrong, no sense that things could be multiple as opposed to either/or. Not an easy time being a secondary school teacher (not that it ever was). We have also seen the rise of the non-expert expert (the parents you are getting letters from).

Good luck, Rob.
